Premium Report - Realized Gains and Losses
Realized Gains and Losses
In currency conversion terms, a Realized Gain/Loss occurs when the exchange rate has changed between the time of sale and when the payment is collected.
If the exchange rate becomes more favorable between the two, you have a realized gain.
In contrast, if the exchange rate becomes less favorable between the two, you have a realized loss.
For many merchants, the timing between the sale and payment is usually near-instantaneous.
But for merchants who sell internationally and defer payments in any way (especially with pre-orders/downpayments), Realized Gains and Losses can have a noticeable impact on one's monthly totals.
This report lets you see any Realized Gains and losses for orders involving payments using a different currency than the one for your store.
These are vital if you're looking to reconcile the amounts received in payments each month vs. the amounts on the original sales:
Here are a few terms to be familiar with to understand the Realized Gains and Losses report, numbered in the screenshots (above):
1.) Realized Gains/Losses not equal to 0. This metrics filter ensures that only orders with a Realized Gain/Loss (below) appear in the report.
**2.) Currency:**The currency for your store.
**3.) Checkout currency:**The currency the customer paid with at the checkout.
**4.) Total Sales plus Duties:**The Total Sales for that order, including discounts, returns, taxes, shipping and duties.
Note - Any 'additional fees' your store applies to an order will not be included in this figure.
**5.) Paid Amount:**The amount the customer paid for that order.
**6.) Realized Gains/Losses:**The difference between the Total Sales plus Duties and the Paid Amount. Note that this value only populates if:
- The Currency and Checkout currency are different.
- The order has actually been paid (Paid at, is set)
- The difference is not equal to 0.00 (in conjunction with the metrics filter, this ensures you don't get orders with no actual difference showing up in the report)
Like all Report Toaster reports, these reports are fully customizable - so you can adjust the date range, add/remove columns, introduce a filter, or change the sort to suit your individual needs. See our basic guides here for more info.
